ToneToneA Privacy Policy
ToneToneA works without accounts, advertising, analytics, tracking, or a developer-operated backend. Learning data and app preferences remain on your device.
1. Scope and summary
This Privacy Policy explains how ToneToneA handles information when you use the ToneToneA iPhone app, visit the ToneToneA website, or contact support.
The ToneToneA app works without an account, advertising, analytics, tracking, or a developer-operated backend. Learning data and app preferences remain on your device and are not transmitted to ToneToneA.
This release does not transmit personal data or usage data from the app to ToneToneA or to third-party partners embedded in the app. Under Apple’s App Privacy definition, it therefore qualifies as Data Not Collected. Apple’s disclosure does not cover information processed independently by Apple, information needed to deliver this website, or information you voluntarily send in a support email. Those situations are explained below.
2. Information handled by the app
Information stored on your device
ToneToneA stores the following information locally using Apple’s app preferences:
- learning and review history, review schedules, curriculum progress, and best-star progress;
- ToneTone Daily attempts, results, and locally calculated streaks;
- your selected instrument, app language, note-name style, and onboarding status;
- Focus Practice difficulty and material, saved song positions, Ear Training timing, and Finger Reflex settings;
- your daily-reminder setting and selected reminder time;
- information used to decide when iOS may be asked to display an App Store rating prompt; and
- a local record of whether Apple recently verified the permanent full unlock.
ToneToneA uses this information only on your device to provide practice, adapt exercise selection, remember your settings, schedule local reviews and reminders, and control access to purchased content. ToneToneA does not receive this information and does not provide its own cloud-sync service. Apple may include app data in a device backup according to your Apple and device settings.
Share Result
If you choose Share Result, iOS displays the system share sheet containing result text. You choose whether and where to send it. ToneToneA does not receive the selected destination or information about what happens after sharing. A destination you select handles the shared content under its own privacy policy.
Local reminders
Daily reminders are optional and off by default. If you enable them, iOS asks for notification permission and schedules notifications locally using the time and language selected on your device.
ToneToneA does not use remote push notifications, receive or transmit a push token, or send your reminder settings or notification content to ToneToneA.
Microphone and audio
ToneToneA does not request microphone access. Practice audio is bundled with the app and plays locally on your device.
Purchases and other Apple services
ToneToneA uses Apple StoreKit to load the permanent full-unlock product, verify entitlement status, make purchases, and restore eligible purchases. StoreKit may communicate with Apple when the app checks an entitlement or when you use purchase or restore features.
Apple manages your Apple Account, payment information, purchase record, refunds, and transaction verification. ToneToneA does not receive your payment-card details, bank details, Apple Account password, or other payment credentials. The app receives a verified entitlement result on the device and may store a recent verification status and date locally so an already verified purchase can continue working briefly if StoreKit is temporarily unavailable.
Deleting ToneToneA does not delete purchase records managed by Apple. An eligible permanent full unlock can be verified or restored after reinstallation through Apple’s services.
Apple may also process App Store downloads, purchases, ratings or reviews, crash reports, diagnostics, and related information according to your Apple settings and Apple’s Privacy Policy. ToneToneA does not include its own analytics or crash-reporting SDK.
3. Advertising, analytics, tracking, and sale of information
ToneToneA does not include advertising or analytics SDKs and does not track you across apps or websites.
We do not sell personal information, use it for targeted or cross-context behavioural advertising, or share it with data brokers.
4. The ToneToneA website
The ToneToneA support website is a static website hosted on Cloudflare Pages. ToneToneA does not add forms, client-side scripts, advertising, analytics, or marketing cookies to the website.
Like other internet hosting providers, Cloudflare may process request and security information needed to deliver and protect the website. This may include an IP address, requested URL, request time, browser or device information, system configuration information, traffic-routing information, and security signals. Cloudflare handles this information as described in Cloudflare’s Privacy Policy.
We use website request information made available to us only to operate, secure, troubleshoot, and protect the website. We do not use it for advertising or to build profiles of visitors.
5. Support communications
If you email ToneToneA support, we receive:
- your email address;
- the subject and content of your message;
- any name, device model, iOS version, app version, screenshots, or other details you choose to include; and
- technical email-delivery information processed by the email services used by you and us.
We use this information to respond to your request, troubleshoot problems, maintain the security and reliability of ToneToneA, and comply with applicable legal obligations.
Providing support information is voluntary, but we may be unable to investigate or answer a request without enough information. Please do not send passwords, payment-card details, health information, or other sensitive personal information.
6. When information may be disclosed
Information described in this policy may be processed by:
- Cloudflare, to host, deliver, and secure the ToneToneA website;
- email service providers, to deliver and store support communications;
- Apple, independently, when providing the App Store, StoreKit, device backups, ratings, diagnostics, and related Apple services; and
- authorities, courts, or professional advisers when disclosure is reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect legal rights or safety, prevent fraud or abuse, or establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
We do not disclose support or website information to advertisers or data brokers.
7. Retention and deletion
Data stored by the app
Local app data remains on your device until it is changed, reset, removed, or deleted through the app or iOS.
Reset All Progress clears learning and review history, review schedules, curriculum and best-star progress, ToneTone Daily attempts and results, and saved song positions. It does not clear preference selections, reminder settings, rating-prompt history, onboarding status, or the local full-unlock verification cache.
Show Onboarding Again separately clears the onboarding-completion status.
Deleting ToneToneA removes its remaining local data from that device, subject to Apple’s device-backup and restore behaviour. Because ToneToneA has no account or backend containing this data, we cannot remotely view, export, correct, or delete it for you.
Deleting the app does not delete purchase records held by Apple.
Website request information
We retain any website request or security information made available to us only for as long as reasonably necessary to operate and secure the website, investigate faults or abuse, and meet legal obligations. Cloudflare may retain information under its service terms and privacy policy.
Support communications
We retain support communications only for as long as reasonably necessary to answer and follow up on the request, troubleshoot recurring issues, prevent abuse, comply with legal obligations, or establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
You may ask us to delete a support communication. We will honour the request where required, subject to information we must retain for legal or security reasons.
8. International processing
Apple, Cloudflare, and the email services used by you and us may process information in countries other than the country where you live. Their privacy notices describe their processing locations and international-transfer practices.
Before undertaking an international transfer for which ToneToneA is legally responsible, we will assess the applicable requirements and use a transfer mechanism permitted by law.
9. Your choices and privacy rights
You can control local app information by changing settings, using the reset controls described above, or deleting the app. You can disable ToneToneA reminders in the app or in iOS notification settings.
Depending on where you live, applicable law may give you rights to request access to, correction of, deletion of, restriction of, or portability of personal information we hold, or to object to certain processing. You may also have a right to complain to a privacy or data-protection authority.
Because ToneToneA does not receive your on-device learning data, these requests generally concern website information or support communications. To make a request, email support@tonetonea.com. We may need enough information to verify the request and locate the relevant communication or record.
10. Additional information for the EEA and United Kingdom
This section applies if you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom.
Controller and purposes
ToneToneA is developed and operated by TAK SHING LEE, an individual developer established in Hong Kong, who is the controller for support communications and for website request information made available by the hosting provider. Apple is responsible for information it independently processes through Apple services. Privacy enquiries: support@tonetonea.com.
Our legal bases are:
- Website delivery and security: our legitimate interests in providing a reliable website, preventing abuse, investigating faults, and maintaining security.
- Support communications: taking steps at your request or providing support connected with the app, where applicable; otherwise, our legitimate interests in answering users, troubleshooting ToneToneA, and maintaining reliable and secure services.
- Legal compliance and claims: compliance with a legal obligation, or our legitimate interests in establishing, exercising, or defending legal rights.
Our legitimate-interest processing is limited by data minimisation, the absence of advertising or visitor profiling, and the low amount of information needed to operate the static website and answer support requests.
Your rights
Subject to applicable conditions and exceptions, you may have the right to:
- receive information about our processing;
- access and receive a copy of your personal data;
- correct inaccurate or incomplete personal data;
- request erasure or restriction of processing;
- object to processing based on legitimate interests;
- receive eligible data in a portable format; and
- lodge a complaint with the data-protection authority where you live or work, or where you believe an infringement occurred.
If processing is ever based on consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time without affecting processing that occurred before withdrawal.
Automated decisions
ToneToneA automatically uses local practice history to select and schedule exercises. This happens entirely on your device. It does not produce decisions with legal or similarly significant effects and is not used for advertising, eligibility, credit, employment, or profiling outside the app.
11. Children’s privacy
ToneToneA may be used by learners of different ages, but the app does not ask for a child’s name, age, contact details, or account, and it does not transmit learning information to ToneToneA.
A child who needs support should ask a parent or guardian to contact us and should not send sensitive personal information. If we learn that a child sent personal information in circumstances requiring parental authorisation and no valid authorisation exists, we will delete it where required by law.
12. Security
ToneToneA reduces privacy risk by keeping app data on the device and by not operating accounts, analytics, advertising, or a user-data backend. We use reasonable technical and organisational measures appropriate to the limited website and support information we process. No internet or email service can be guaranteed completely secure.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy if ToneToneA’s features, service providers, or legal obligations change. We will post the updated policy on this page, change its effective date, and update the App Store privacy disclosure before releasing any app change that affects its data practices.
14. Contact
